1). Writers and poets of jammu and Kashmir :
SHEIKH NUR-UD-DIN WALI : Sheikh Nur-Ud-Din Wali or Nund-Reshi was the first kashmiri saint to assume the tittle of 'Reshi'. He expressed his views in the form of beautiful verses , which are full of moral teachings. Nurmana : the collection of his writings are preserved in Charar. His funeral was attended by Zain-ul-Abideen. In 1808 an Afghan Governor , Atta Mohammad Khan minted currency in Sheikh Nur-ud-Din's name , as a mark of respect to the saint.
HABBA KHATOON : Habba khatoon , the poetess queen , is almost a legendary figure in the literary history of kashmir. Habba khatoon is also known as 'Nighting gale of Kashmir' . Her real name was Zoon (The Moon) , she was born in the middle of 16th century in the village Chandhar. Her songs and lines is very popular in kashmir and are sung even these days. Lol Lyrics is the typical verse form that was popularised by Habba Khatoon.
ARNIMAL : in kashmiri poetry Arnimal is known for her love lyrics. Arnimal's family was unhappy as she was deserted by her husband. Her poetry reflects the poignancy , grief and sorrow to fate.
MAHMUD GAMI : Mohammad Gami became famous for his narrative romantic poems , shrin khusro, yusuf zulekhah and Laila majnu.
He also pluralistic in kashmiri , the histories of Mahmud of Ghazni and Haroun Rashid. Mahmud Gami's yusuf Zulaikhah appeared in German magazine in 1895.
RASOOL MIR : Rasool Mir shares with Mahmud Gami , the honour of being the ''father of kashmiri Ghazal''.
Rasool Mir is remembered for his innovation in the style of love songs, which earned him the tittle of "Keats of Kashmir".
Rasool Mir's Day is celebrated every year in the kashmir valley on 24th October. His famous Ghazal 'Rind Posh Maal' is popular even today.
PARMANAND : Parmanand'a poetry was dedicated to Lord Krishna. His three important poems are ' Radha Svayamwara ' , "Sudama Charita", and "Shiva Lagun". Parmanand's real name was Nand Ram and he died in 1830.
GHULAM AHMED MAHJOOR: Among the poets of 'New kashmir' period , Mehjoor ranked as the greatest. He was born in 1885, in Mitragaom village and by profession he was a patwari. Mahjoor filled the kashmiri poetry with new spirit and introduced new themes in it. His poem "The Flower of Nishat Garden" Became very famous
Rabindra nath Tigore is very much impressed by Mehjoor's poetry and honored him calling him, 'the words worth of kashmir'.
ABDUL AHAD AZAD : Abdul ahad azad was influenced by kashmiri Ghazals of Rasool Mir and Mahmud Gami. He bacame fervent advocate of the revolution , which came to kashmir in 1947. His whole poetry is mighty Crusade against Fanaticism, communal prejudice and national fads.
ABDUL SATTAR ASI : Abdul Sattar Asi was a milkman by profession, studied Hafiz and Sadi and translated two poems of Iqbal 'Shikwa' and 'Jawab-e-Shikwa' into kashmiri launguage.
DINA NATH NADIM : Dina Nath Nadim was most popular kashmiri poet of full blooded youth. His poems 'Vavan vun nam' and 'Bombuer te yemberzel' are very famous.
ZINDA KOUL : Zinda koul was popularly known as Master ji Zinda Koul. He is the first winner of Sahitya Academy Award for kashmiri launguage in 1956. 'Vadihe Manush' (Man would weep)is his famous poem.
REHMAN RAHI : Abdul Rehman Rahi is an eminent kashmiri poet , translator and critic.He is the first kashmiri writter to be awarded Janpath Award (2004), India's highest literary Award for his poetic collections. "Subhuk soda" , "kalami raki" And "Siyan Rode Jaren Manz".
MIRZA ARIF : A scientist turned poet, Mirza Ghulam hassan Beig , Popularly known az Mirza Arif , has covered the entire life span kashmir's Economy and Political transition from Dogra monarchy to New Kashmir.
JAMMU AND KASHMIR CULTURAL ACADEMY.
The jammu and kashmir academy of Art, culture and languages is an autonomous body which was establishes in 1958.
Mirza Kamal-ud-Din worked as its first secretary. Sheerza is the journal of the academy , Sheeraza is issued in kashmiri, Dogri , Urdu, Punjabi and Hindi. Academy, besides its other activities undertakes the printing and publishing of books in the regional Languages of jammu and kashmir.
DOGRI POETRY :
DOGRI POETRY has developed recently. The most important figure in Dogri poetry is Hardut Shastri. The other well known persons in the Dogri litreature are Devi Dutt, Ganga ram, Demu bhai Pant, Ram Dhan , Kishan sumailpuri , etc.
It is being said that Hardut is the father of Modern Dogri poetry , Demu gave it a new form and content and sumailpuri introduced a new technique in it.
Bagwar Geeta was translated into Dogri by Ragunath Singh Samyal and Hakim paras Ram.
Megdoot was translated into Dogri by Ram Nath Shashtri.
SHIRAZA DOGRI :
Shiraza Dogri is a Dogri literary periodical issued by the jammu and kashmir Academy of Art , culture and launguage. Which is notable publisher of modern Dogri literary works and another being the Dogri Sanastha.
Recently a collection of over 100 works of prose and poetry in Dogri published over the last 50 years was made accessible online at the central Institute of languages mysore.
